2010 Daejeon International Guitar Competition
(a part of 2010 Daejeon International Guitar Festival, 25-28 November)

- Date: 26-28 November 2010
- Place: Daejeon Metropolitan City, Republic of Korea
- Organizer: Daejeon International Guitar Festival Committee
- Sponsor: Government of Daejeon Metropolitan City, and others (to be notified later)

1. Competition Schedule & Place
(1) Preliminary round: 26 November, 10:00 AM-18:00 PM, Daejeon Museum of Art
(2) Semifinal: 27 November, 10:00 AM-18:00 PM, Daejeon Museum of Art
(3) Final: 28 November, 17:00 PM, Daejeon Culture & Arts Center

2. Performance Repertoire

2.1 Preliminary Round
  -Designated repertoire : one piece out of H.Villa-Lobos Etude no. 7, 11, or 12.
 - Free repertoire : one piece within 7 minutes.
2.2 Semifinal: 10-12 competitors will be selected from the preliminary round
  -Designated repertoire : one choice out of following 8 opuses.
    (1) Op.61 Grand Ouverture (M.Giuliani)
    (2) Op.150 Gran Sonata Eroica (M.Giuliani)  
    (3) Op.7 Fantasie (F.Sor)
    (4) Op.14 Grand Solo (F.Sor)
    (5) Op.2 Andante and Rondo No.3 (D.Aguado)
    (6) Op.16 La Fandango (D.Aguado)
    (7) Op.19 Fantasie (L.Legnani)
    (8) Op.20 4 pieces out of 36 Caprices (L.Legnani)
 - Free repertoire : one piece within 10 minutes except classical repertoire.
2.3 Final: 4 competitors will be selected from the semifinal.
  -Designated repertoire: one prelude out of following 4 opuses of J.S.Bach.
    (1) Lute Suite No.1-BWV 996
    (2) Lute Suite No.2-BWV 997
    (3) Lute Suite No.3-BWV 995
    (4) Lute Suite No.4-BWV 1006
 - Free repertoire : Anyone except baroque music within 20 minutes. (without limit of number of pieces). Note that the free repertoires should be different from each other at preliminary round, semifinal and final.
    
3. Application

3.1 Application Limit
(1) The international competition is open to classical guitarists of all ages at the onset of their careers and who are not represented by major artist management and are not a party to an exclusive recording contract.
(2) The number of participants is limited. The admission to participate depends on the succession of applications. The organizers will announce the termination of the registration on this site when the maximum number of participants is reached.

3.2 How To Apply
(1) Please download the 'Application Form' at the homepage http://djigf.com
(2) The application form filled in English and a separated photo(digital file or printed one for passport size) must be received no later than 30 September 2010 by email or post mail together with the application form.

(3) The participation fee of 100 US dollars must be payed no later than 30 September 2010 by the bank transfer to the bank account xxx-xxx-xxx (To be open before September).  The participation fee is not refundable.
(4)   Five copies of scores for all free repertoires must be sent no later than 30 October 2010, by a post mail to the office address.

4. Prizes
(1) First prize : 5,000 US dollar + a guitar valued about 5,000 US dollar
    The first prizer could be invited at the next festival.
(2) Second prize : 2,500 US dollar + a guitar valued about 3,000 US dollar
(3) Third prize : 1,500 US dollar + a guitar valued about 2,500 US dollar
(4) Fourth prize : 1,000 US dollar + a guitar valued about 2,000 US dollar
   The award ceremony will be held right after the final competition.

5. Judge Panel
(1) The judge panel will be composed of international guitarists or music professors.

6. Competition rules
(1) All stages of the competition are open to the public.
(2) All pieces must be performed without scores.
(3) No member of the judge can vote for a competitor who she/he teaches.  
(4) The president of the judge must be informed of any such relationship before the preliminary round.
(5) All competitors are recommended to wear proper performance clothes.
(6) All the participant or their representatives must be gathered at the registration desk at 09:00 on the first day of competition to determine the order the performance by a draw.    
(7) The order of performance for semifinal and final will be determined by a draw right after the selection of the competitors.

7. Accommodations
(1) Competitors are responsible for all accommodation, meal and travel expenses. But we support the competitor who stays for the semifinal and final with amount of 70,000 Won per day for each.
(2) Festival committee is willing to help the reservation for the accommodation for the participants and their companions. Please email us to ygcho100@paran.com

8. Other events & information on festival
In addition to this international competition, the international guitar festival also includes  the concerts for 4 days, guitar exhibitions for 2 days.
